I had the opportunity to work as a Motion Graphics Artist Intern at Riot Games in the summer of 2024! I learned so much from all the talented artists, designers, and programmers on my team.

My internship project culminated into in-game rank-up animations that will be in set revival event modes that appear intermittently!

Internship announcement

As a fun passion side project, I decided to create an animated intro for my internship announcement post on social media.

01 // rank-up

Water Ceremony

The first celebration starts off small with a splash. Here, we introduce players to the motif of an elemental ring around your matching medallion.

01 // rank-up

Fire Ceremony

The next celebration has longer lingering effects like the medallion cooling off and smoke emanating from the burst. The frame also gains wings that slam into place.

01 // Rank-up

Lightning Ceremony

The final celebration to reward players who advance to the highest level. The effects cover the entire screen and has even longer lingering effects.

02 // Process

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

In order to improve memory efficiency, I reused this water tile texture multiple times within a single animation.

EXTRA work

Revival Ladder Hub

The revival ladder hub is the main place players go to view their progress, change modifiers, and collect their rewards. In this screen, I animated a couple micro-interactions to help bring attention and fun to even an otherwise general homescreen.

Shoutout to my friend, Nathan for grinding out this gamemode!

Clear Communication Across Stakeholders

Working with an engineering team across Singapore, visual design craft team, and the core events team, while thinking about sound design and technical considerations, provided an interesting challenge and taught me how to communicate my ideas, thoughts, & concerns more often and with clarity.
